SEND Activities Over the Summer

Wandsworth offers lots of local activities in the Summer holidays for children and young people with SEND.  Most are free or at a discounted rate, and whenever possible siblings and friends can join in.

These activities are all part of Wandsworth’s SEND local offer.  You can find out more by visiting the SEND Local Offer website www.wandsworth.gov.uk/localoffer.  Calling on 020 8871 8907 or emailing  eleanor.thain@richmondandwandsworth.gov.uk
To make sure families with a child with SEND are kept informed about the latest offers, please encourage and support them to join the Disabled Children’s Register (DCR) and apply for a WAND card.  If they are 18 to 24, they can apply for a WAND+ card.
WAND and WAND+Card holders who allow us to email them, are emailed most weeks about offers and activities.  We post out a DCR Newsletter to everyone twice a year, and this is when we post out our annual Guide to Wandsworth’s Short Breaks Offer, the Local Offer Map and other publications like “Where can I use my WAND/WAND+ card?”  This year the Spring DCR Newsletter also has 4 pages of ideas for Summer days out which are either free or reasonably priced and within 45 minutes of Wandsworth.
We have no WAND Partners – the local businesses like Battersea Park Children’s Zoo, Go Ape, Places Leisure Centres, Flip Out and all the others who support the WAND card with offers and support - outside Wandsworth, but showing the WAND card at venues, in London and nationwide will often get you fast track access at museums, gardens, activity centres, theme parks and attractions,  free carer passes at these venues and we tell our WAND card holders always ask about any concessions!

This Summer our WAND/WAND+ card holders* can:

  • Park for free in Battersea Park, using their WAND card oyster cardholder displayed on their parent or carer’s dashboard, then:
  • Use their WAND card to visit Battersea Park Children’s Zoo, for free, taking a parent or carer, also free.
  • Hire bikes from London Recumbents, free for the WAND card holder and a parent, carer, sibling or friend.
  • Putt in the Park at both Battersea and Wandsworth Parks at 40% off for a family mini golf session.
  • Swim for free along with a parent or carer who is also free at Wandsworth’s Places Leisure Centres, they can also benefit from lower costs for many of the activities, soft play, hire of badminton courts etc at the Leisure Centres.
  • Request fast track entry to swimming at Places Leisure Centres
  • Borrow up to 3 DVDs for free from Wandsworth’s Libraries, and pay no late return fees, among other concessions.

As well as the ongoing offers, for WAND and WAND+ card holders, and their families there will be:

  • weekly free sessions at Go Ape, having high ropes adventures,
  • weekly half price sessions bouncing on the trampolines at Flip Out
  • a free screening at Cineworld Wandsworth
  • the Annual DCR and WAND Picnic in Battersea Park

Using email to contact most of the 1200 DCR members, WAND and WAND+ card holders we can also let them know, week by week, about other events, activities and offers, as we organise them or are told about them.  These include :

  • Watersports sessions from Enable, sailing kayaking and boating on Wimbledon Park Lake
  • Outings and events from Contact
  • Fun Days, Outings, Fayres, Fetes and other activities at the Enhanced Children’s Centre, all the Children’s Centres, Youth Clubs and groups
  • Events and activities from SEN Talk, A2ndvoice, Tooting Community Kitchen, Activity Station, and other voluntary groups.
